Why not spend St. Patrick’s in St. Barth’s? March 17 is launch day of the famed St. Barth’s Bucket Regatta. Watch the 39 super-yachts and their super-yachtsmen vie for top honors as they face down the challenges of four days of world-class racing and socialising. From the “Not so Wiggley Course” to the “Wrong Way Around Courses,” this year’s race promises to be action-packed.
A congenial, invitational regatta set in the Corinthian spirit, St. Barth’s Bucket Regatta is open to yachts whose LOA (length overall) is 30.5 meters or longer. For a prime viewing spot – if the St. Barth’s tradewinds cooperate – catch the spinnaker takedowns from a beachfront perch during the “Round the Island Course.” New course directions this year will also see thrilling passages through Ile Chevreau, Ile Fregate and Ile Toc Vers.

Bonito – Arrive early to Bonito, simply the best restaurant on the island, complete with fresh fare, gorgeous sunset views, a resident DJ and a convenient Gustavia location. As you lounge on sofa seating, you may think you’re in the chic living room of a beachside, Ralph Lauren-esque Hampton’s residence. The 4-sided bar with its cool white décor, splashes of color and decorations befitting a library or snug are spot on for pre-dinner cocktails. Bonito’s incomparable food and service make it the perfect place for all occasions and a celebrity favorite. Though expensive by local standards it is so good, one needs no justification. The fish tacos and Chilean Pan-Seared Sea Bass earn rave reviews, as do the extensive wine list and great selections by the glass. Bonito provides the perfect excuse to dress up and an opportunity to take home a USB stick with some “Yo One Shutter” house tunes. Image courtesy of oregarestaurant.com
Orega – The organically contemporary Japanese fusion restaurant Orega knows how to raise the roof, literally. This fresh-faced newcomer to the St. Barth’s dining scene makes the most of starry nights and Caribbean downpours with a retractable roof over its lovely patio. Nosh on ebi and mango soy paper wraps, Kobe tataki and sashimi or the gastronomic goldmine: a six-course, chef-selected Omakasa.
