All eyes are on the British Capital this week as it hosts the sixth ‘Masterpiece London’ art fair at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Between 25th June and 1st July, the illustrious event will showcase museum-quality artworks, as well as antiques and design. Although the British contingent is strong, the fair also boasts an international roster of names, including French jewellery and perfume house, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Italian luxury car manufacturer, Maserati. But perhaps the best news for collectors is that many of the pieces are for sale.

Fans of fine jewellery, watches and objets d’art should make a beeline for the Fabergé Salon, located next to the Vanity Fair Lecture Theatre. This is Fabergé’s first exhibition at Masterpiece, and here it will unveil its newest collection. On show will be ‘Secret Garden’ – a set of jewels inspired by the palette and compositions of Marc Chagall – and ‘Lady Compliquée’, an exquisite timepiece with a white alligator strap and peacock watch face, which unfurls over the course of an hour.

Four Seasons of Fabergé

Also at the salon will be the first of a unique set of objets d’art called the ‘Fabergé Four Seasons Eggs’, each of which is set with a gemstone to represent a particular season – a diamond for winter, an emerald for spring, a sapphire for summer and a ruby for autumn. Fabergé is famous for its bejewelled eggs, which it created specially for the Russian royal family. Fifty were commissioned in total – the first by Tsar Alexander III in 1885 for his wife, Empress Maria, to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. But it has been 99 years since the last creation, making this week’s unveiling truly special.
