NBAA2015 lands in Las Vegas

Held between the 17th-19th November at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Henderson Executive Airport, the National Business Aviation Association event NBAA2015 is the premier business aviation event of the year.

The annual convention gives those in the industry a golden opportunity to network with 26,000 key aviation contacts, vendors, and suppliers from across the globe. It is the fifth largest trade show in the United states and features a huge variety of educational sessions, exhibitors, and static aircraft on display.

What’s On The Agenda

Safety is always at the forefront of discussion at the NBAA, and this year’s show is no different. There are two events that warrant particular attention, beginning with the Single Pilot Safety Standdown held on the 16th November, the day before the convention officially opens. The session will see contributions from figures including National Transportation Safety Board member Earl Weener, president and CEO of Aviation Performance Solutions Paul Ransbury and Garmin engineer Noel Duerksen.

Back by popular demand on Wednesday 18th at 14:00 in the Central Hall, the Live Emergency Response Simulation is designed to show just what goes on during an emergency. The live drill makes for a valuable opportunity both to identify your role should an emergency occur and establish how you should react, making this arguably the most essential of all programs scheduled for the convention.

There’s no better example of the value of this exercise than the story of Captain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger, the former US Airlines pilot behind the ‘Miracle on the Hudson’. As luck would have it, you can listen that very same day to this hero pilot’s inspirational story of how he managed to save 150 passengers lives by making an unpowered emergency water landing on the Hudson River when he keynotes the Second Day General Session at 10.30am.

The Official NBAA2015 App

For those in attendance, the Official NBAA2015 app makes for a crucial addition. Containing everything from an interactive exhibit floor plan and directory, a full schedule and access to the NBAA’s social media feeds, the free app is ideal for ensuring you’re in the know throughout the show. The app can be downloaded here.

Show Highlights

For many, the best part of each year’s show is the opportunity to get up close to the array of innovative and luxurious aircraft on show at the static display. You can expect to see planes at the Henderson Executive Airport like Icon Aircraft’s unique A5amphibian light sport aircraft with spin-resistant features; the latest variant in the Super King Air family in the form of the Beechcraft King Air 350i; and Elliot Aviation’s upgraded Hawker 400XP with touchscreen Garmin G5000 flight deck for added visual clarity instead of clutter for when you’re at the controls.

The educational sessions are undoubtedly one of the most important components of NBAA2015. The workshops provide a forum for industry debate, with discussion around the technological progress of unmanned aircraft systems and the benefit that they will undoubtedly have upon the aviation industry a hot topic this year. Highlights include sessions on small UAS in business aviation and ‘Detect & Avoid’ Technology for UAS.

With over 1,100 exhibitors showcasing the latest products and services across a million square feet, there’s more than enough for new and returning visitors to the convention to cover. But for those keen on discovering the new players in the industry we recommend heading straight to the Central Hall. There you’ll find a pavilion solely featuring new exhibitors to the show that’ll help you ensure you’re clued up on the latest ventures taking the NBAA2015 by storm.

Set in the ballroom of the glamorous five-diamond Venetian Hotel found on the east side of the iconic Las Vegas Strip, the NBAA/CAN Soiree makes for a great venue to entertain customers, network with industry peers and, most importantly, support a worthy cause. The Corporate Angel Network is the only charity in the United States who set out to help cancer patients get the best possible treatment for their cancer by arranging free travel to treatment centres across the country using empty seats on corporate aircraft.

With items being sold at live and silent auctions ranging from a Gogo Biz ATG5000 to a Colorado ski getaway to benefit the Corporate Angel Network, not to mention dinner and musical entertainment from The Zippers, the night is sure to make for a memorable one – just make sure you pack your best cocktail attire.
